At Least 116 Killed in Stampede at Event Held by Self-Styled Guru

Bhole Baba, a Former Government Employee, Was Leading the Gathering

Over 100 People Believed to Have Been Trampled in the Chaos

At least 116 people were killed and over 100 others injured in a stampede that broke out during a religious event held by a self-styled guru in Uttar Pradesh, India, on Sunday. The guru, known as Bhole Baba, was leading a gathering of thousands of devotees when the incident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the stampede began when a large group of people surged forward to receive free food and clothing being distributed by Bhole Baba's followers. The crowd became unruly, and people began to fall and get trampled.

Bhole Baba, whose real name is Narayan Hari Vishwa Hari, is a former policeman who turned into a religious preacher. He claims to have worked with the Intelligence Bureau, India's intelligence agency.

The incident is still under investigation, but authorities believe that the stampede was caused by a combination of overcrowding and poor crowd management. They are also looking into whether Bhole Baba or his followers may have been negligent in their duty of care to the devotees.
