Walt Disney and Reliance Offer to Sell TV Channels in India Merger Case

Reliance Industries and Walt Disney Co. have offered to sell some of their TV channels to win faster antitrust clearance for their proposed $85 billion merger in India.
Deal Delays
The deal, which was announced in April 2022, has been delayed by the Competition Commission of India (CCI), which is reviewing the merger for potential antitrust concerns.
The CCI has expressed concerns that the merger could create a monopoly in the Indian media and entertainment market. Reliance and Disney have argued that the merger will create a strong competitor to other global media giants.
In an attempt to address the CCI's concerns, Reliance and Disney have offered to sell some of their TV channels to reduce their combined market share.
The CCI is expected to make a decision on the merger by the end of June 2022.
